Some Statistics...

  • In 84% of reported sexual assaults, the offender is known to the victim; they are a friend, acquaintance or family member.
  • An estimated 45% of adults in Alberta have experienced sexual violence at some point in their lives.
  • It is estimated that 95% of sexual assaults are not reported - for a variety of reasons.

 

 

 

Sexual Violence is not about uncontrollable desires, lust, or the way that the victim behaves or is dressed. It is an attempt to control and wield power over the victim.

Everybody has the right to refuse sexual activity at any time. Sexual activity must be consensual. Consent happens when everyone involved in any kind of sexual activity choose to take part in that activity. They have to have the freedom, and ability to make that choice. This website does a good job of explaining what consent looks like.
