I have lost money because of a crime. Can I get financial help?
- If you have lost money because of a serious crime you may be eligible to apply to the Alberta government for some Emergency Financial Assistance. Please note that you have to apply within 45 days of the crime. We can help you with your application for this - please contact us.
- You may be able to submit a Statement of Restitution form to the court. This form allows you to ask the Judge to order a guilty person to pay you back if you have lost money because of a crime. We can provide you with information about this.
I think I may need counselling after the crime. Can I get help with that?
- You may be eligible for some counselling funded by the Alberta government if you need counselling as a result of a serious crime in Alberta. The application form has to be submitted within 45 days of the crime. We can help you to fill in the application form for this - please contact us.
Counselling can be expensive. There are some places where you may be able to access free counselling. Some of these are - an Employee/Family Assistance Plan (if your workplace offers one), Alberta Mental Health and the Primary Care Network.
If you have been sexually assaulted, there are free programs to help you with the trauma that you are feeling. We can suggest places where you may be able to access counselling services. Please talk to us about what may be available for you.
